After a rough weekend of getting more and more under the weather, Mommy took me to the doctor’s today to get a diagnosis. It turns out that I’ve got an ear infections in both ears, eye infection and a sinus infection for good measure. Add that to the full time teething, and you’ve got a recipe for one unhappy girl.

They gave me some eye drops to be administered 4x daily to help with the weepy eyes and Amoxcillin twice a day. At least the Amoxicillin is a yummy bubble-gum flavor. Getting well soon I hope.

Very sick and not too happy about it

This weekend the fam and I headed to Vancouver, BC with our friends the Smiths: Doug, Tia and my pal Campbell. This was a big weekend as it was the first international outing for both Campbell and I. I can’t speak for her, but my fave was Stanley Park. My least favorite thing was not being able to speak Canandian. Here’s a pick of mom and I playing in a water fountain…

This weekend Mom, Dad, Grandma Cynthia, and Papa Jack all flew down to Oakland, CA (where I was conceived by the way) so that we could work our way to Santa Rosa, CA in honor and anticipation of my Great-Grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. Fifty years - Wow… I haven’t even been alive for 50 months!

There were so many interesting and wonderful people attending the celebratory weekend. As the only baby involved in this shindig, you can only imagine the attention I was receiving. No complaints here.

Saturday was the big day. Daddy helped organize a golf outing consisting of: Great-Grandpa Jer, Papa Jack, and Great-Uncle Bob Herzog. I hear the boys had fun. After golf the entire family met at the beautiful ground of the Santa Rosa Junior College (a learning institution my mom attended briefly) for some professionally photographed family portraits. We are all aware of how photogenic I am, but thank goodness for Daddy… He’s the king of the lazy eye and could rest easy since the shots were flashless due to being outdoors. Whew!

After the photos the entire family congregated at Hotel La Rose in Santa Rosa’s charming Railroad Square. After a meet-and-greet cocktail hour, we all moved to a private dining room that was part the hotel’s lovely restaurant, Josef’s Restaurant and Bar. In addition to all of the family peeps that I had been hanging with for the past few, there was a ton of Joan and Jer’s friends and a bunch of Jer’s former business associates. What a crowd!

Somehow neither Daddy nor I managed to take a single photo (I’m still dumbfounded over that one). We’re going to have to sit back and hope that the pro snaps are up to par. I still can’t quite get over the fact that they’ve been married for 50 years. Congrats guys!

This weekend consisted of a road trip to Daddy’s old stomping grounds for a visit with Grammy Sam and the Marum’s. Mike Marum is Dad’s brother-in-law and his daughter Anna is his niece. Grammy Sam’s birthday is on May 31st and Anna’s is on June 5th, so this was kind of a belated Mother’s Day visit for Daddy and an opportunity to pre-celebrate a couple birthdays.

After a hang session at Grammy Sam’s on Saturday, we went to The Heathman Lodge for a dinner at it’s restaurant, Hudson’s Bar & Grill. Food and wine were consumed, good times were had, and then we retired back to Grammy Sam’s for some wonderful Macrina cake that Mommy picked up in honor of the birthdays. All in all, a great weekend.

FRIDAY
Mom, Dad and I headed to Seatac airport for our short flight to San Francisco. The purpose of our trip was to pay a visit to Dad’s Aunt Rosy Beelman, who is the sister of his father and to help her celebrate her upcoming 83rd birthday. I hear that she is an incredible woman and my middle name is inspired by her.

After an uneventful flight, our good friends Deb and Lance Logan were kind enough to meet us at the airport and take us to a great place for lunch called the Beach Chalet, right on the edge of Golden Gate Park. It was 82 degrees and wonderful watching the big waves pound the beach from below our view.

Next up was checking us into the Kensington Park Hotel right at Union Square. Deb and Lance belong to the Elks Lodge that is located in the hotel, so they secured us a discounted rate. The hotel is old and a bit funky, but you can’t beat the location! And for the cocktail crew, you can’t beat the stiff and cheap pour you’ll find at an Elk’s Lodge. After 3 rounds here, and one more at neighboring Farallon, Deb and Lance headed back to Marin to prepare for their early departure to Florida by car. They are nuts.

By this point we were all pooped and looking forward to a mellow night in our room. Daddy ordered delivery pizza from North Beach Pizza and we all watched TV. I suffered a bit through the night as the air in the room was INCREDIBLY dry and I had a hard time breathing.

SATURDAY
Today started early with a brisk stroll down Market Street on our way to the Ferry Terminal Plaza at Pier One. This was a favorite hang of Mom and Dad when they were living in Oakland. Each Saturday hundreds of food vendors set up shop around the building selling everything you can imagine that is raised on a farm. There are also some prepared food vendors… Mom and Dad go a bit nuts for the Mexican joint, especially when they are offering carnitas. We picked up some macaroons and a miniature banana-cream pie from Miette, a bottle of 2001 Rockland Petite Sirah from the trusted owner of the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant, an amazing floral bouquet for Rosy, and some blood orange infused olive oil from Stonehouse Olive Oil. This place is great… I can’t wait to come back and try out Taylor’s Automatic Refresher!!

Next up was a visit to Great Aunt Rosy’s place at Bay and Franklin, right at the gate of Fort Mason. She’s been living in her apartment for 33 years. Wow! I think her rent, with garage, is about $680 per month. Hanging out with her was so great… She’s so sweet and has so many amazing stories. It’s hard to comprehend that she’s lived all over the world: South Dakota, Oregon, Michigan, Germany, England, Korea, Morocco, Japan, and perhaps more. She got Daddy to fix a lamp and repair a door jam during our visit. She’s a hoot.

After our lengthy visit, we just headed back to the hotel and chilled out to some prime time TV while Mom and Dad ate the leftover pizza. What will tomorrow bring?

SUNDAY
After another tough night of drier than Sahara air in our room, I was understandably cranky. Mom sent Dad on a Starbucks run while she put my act together and supplied me with a bite to eat. After getting packed and checked out of the hotel, we bopped over to Great Aunt Rosy’s before heading to the Fog City Diner on the Embarcadero for brunch. Actually, we were a bit early for our rendez-vous at her house, so we played in the sun at Crissy field in Fort Mason until it was time head to her place.

The Fog City Diner is a cool place and it was fun to people watch: Bentley’s, Carerra’s, lots of obnoxiously loud Harley’s, and some snooty people behaving badly. The food here was great and it was fun to spend a few more minutes catching up with Great Aunt Rosy before we headed back to Seattle.

We’re going to be down in the area again in June for the King and Great Grandma Joan’s 50th wedding anniversary… I hope we can find a moment to say a quick hello to my dear Great Aunt Rosy. Great trip!

MONDAY, JAN. 17
Ok, here we go. Let the games begin. Early this morning Mom woke up at about 2AM to start getting ready for her trip to Dallas, TX. She hired a car to be at the house at 4AM so that she could make to Seatac airport in plenty of time for her 6AM flight. At this time we did a little feeding and then I went back to sleep. As Mom was getting ready to head downstairs, she dropped her suitcase or something, which caused me quite a stir. Mom informed Dad that “the beast is awake,” gave him a peck on the cheek, and was out the door.

Daddy did his best to sooth me, but the writing was on the wall: Mom was gone and this week was going to suck. It wasn’t intended to be personally directed at Daddy, but with no one else to take out my anguish on, he got to suffer through my hour long tantrum. And hence, I was surely setting the tone for what he should expect for the week. Heh heh.

Since it was MLK day, my daycare was closed. Daddy stayed home from work to look after me. I showed my gratitude by being more temperamental the usual and giving him lots of scream therapy. He/we did get up the courage to attend our weekly PEPS meeting. Tonight it was over at Erick, Pam and Erika’s house. Everyone was there except our facilitator and was giving Dad lots of support. The guest speaker was a nurse practitioner and field all kinds of questions from everyone. I was on my best behavior for the group, but socked it to Daddy just as soon as we got home. Poor guy, poor me. We want Mommy.

TUESDAY, JAN. 18
Up and at ‘em a little earlier today so that Daddy and I get our acts together for daycare. I’ve gotta hand it Mr. Mom… He did a great job. Admittedly, I was a little out of sorts today and really only managed a couple of 10-15 minute naps at daycare. When Daddy came to pick me up and Amy communicated this to him, it was funny to see the dread on his face as he was imagining the another sleepless night. We went home and had a pretty chilled evening. The Sonics were on and LOST to Denver despite them having two of their starters out of action and a new coach holding the reigns. What was up with Ray Allen tonight… He was like 2 for 24. Yikes!

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 19
Mommy’s birthday!! Daycare was really fun today and I’m feeling like I’m back in my groove. Obviously things aren’t quite the same without Mom here, but Daddy and I are doing a really great job. The real treat of the day was that Grandma H. and Papa Jack came over to the house to see me and ease Daddy’s pain. Grandma H. had stopped at Whole Foods and picked up some amazing steaks for Daddy to grill on his beloved Weber. We all hung out and had a great time. Daddy gave me a quick bath because I was smelling like the expensive cheese Mom blows all of our money on. Just kidding… It’s because the Aquaphor that Dad puts on my to treat my dry skin enhances the rate in which I collect dirt. Mom called and we had a speaker-phone conference and wished her a happy birthday. She celebrated by going out for BBQ with her team. In case you don’t know, Mom has a thing for BBQ… She becomes possessed!

THURSDAY, JAN. 20
Another smooth morning at home before getting me to daycare. You’d never believe how good Dad is at this… I don’t think he can either. Today we did a fun painting project. Amy has got this cool non-toxic foam paint that she let us push around on paper plates. The paint was yellow, the plate round, so it kind of an interpretation of the sun. Yeah, that’s it. Daddy showed a little early this afternoon to throw in the car and head out to Newcastle. Anne-Marie and Brett were hosting us, Grandma H. and Papa Jack, along with the Grubers from Miami. Apologies are due here because I came unglued almost immediately upon arrival. For about one solid hour I inconsolably screamed. I was dry, not particularly hungry, just tired. Tired of my mom not being with me. Tired of eating that disgusting soy formula. Tired of only taking one giant dump per day (damn that formula). And just plain tired. Eventually I pulled it together long enough to be passed around from person to person like a hot potato, but Daddy packed me up and we made a hasty exit. It was great seeing everyone… I hope that next time I’m in a better mood. Oh, Jack and Martha gave Daddy a CD by a country band called Lonestar that contains a hilarious song called “Mr. Mom.”

FRIDAY, JAN. 21
11:30AM Mom is HERE!! Reunited and it feels so good! Gimme those boobs!!

This past weekend my Mom and Grandma H took me to Los Angeles. Wow was it exciting! I handled my first plane ride no problem and I was on my best behavior the entire weekend. While in LA, I was able to meet my Great Auntie and Uncle Tom, my cousins Chad and Jordan and my Great Grandma, “GG”. But perhaps the most important discovery that I made while there was that I am going to be an actress. I mean come on, who could deny that a life of palm trees, fast cars and big houses could be that bad?
