I’m home sick today with hand, foot and mouth disease. My pal Henry’s fever was like mine in that it tended to come in the evenings. He had his for 4 evenings and this will be my fourth. Daddy’s home from work with me… You should see him squirm as I put the screws to him. He and I both hope that I’m ready to go back to school tomorrow.

Just as I was feeling really crummy we got a call from my pal Henry Light’s mom Amy letting us know that their pediatrician had just diagnosed Hen with Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease (read about it here or here).

Amy assured us it wasn’t serious but that I was likely to get it because he and I shared a sippy cup on a playdate the weekend before. This definitely shed some light on what the sores were on my hands. Friday I got a wicked fever at ELDC and had one bout of diarrhea just to make the situation better. It was appearing as if I too had my own case of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease.

After a bit more compassion from my parents as to why I was being cranky, they’ve helped me get through the worst of it and I’m on the mend. I’m still a snot factory though.

I’m home sick today - home sick as opposed to homesick.  Last night I had an incredibly sleepless night as I was suffering a fever of 103 degrees.  I’m still a little warm this morning, so I have to stay home as per daycare policy.  And guess who gets to stay with me… Daddy!!  We’re going to have fun reading books and watching Baby Einstein videos.  Wish me a fast track to recovery - I’ve got a meeting with Kofi Annan tomorrow about the Diapers for Dinner program.

After a rough weekend of getting more and more under the weather, Mommy took me to the doctor’s today to get a diagnosis. It turns out that I’ve got an ear infections in both ears, eye infection and a sinus infection for good measure. Add that to the full time teething, and you’ve got a recipe for one unhappy girl.

They gave me some eye drops to be administered 4x daily to help with the weepy eyes and Amoxcillin twice a day. At least the Amoxicillin is a yummy bubble-gum flavor. Getting well soon I hope.

Very sick and not too happy about it

Not sleeping well. Bumming out the parents. They are bumming me out. A girl has got to get her Zzzz’s when she can. While on a bumpy stroller ride is not what I’d typically select, but I’ll be damned if it’s going to be when my parents want to sleep. It’s the REFUSE TO LAY DOWN campaign of 2005.

Today I went to see my mildly insane pediatrician.  Just kidding… he’s not insane.  He’s just wired to function in a completely different universe than the one I’m just barely getting to know.  Anyway, he kind of busted Mom’s balls because she wasn’t working hard enough on getting me to crawl.  He said that I was physically operating on the level of a 7 month old developmentally.  Huh?!  I could’ve crawled a long time ago if I wanted!  I’m more interested in speech and over-all cuteness.

We left that appointment with a mandate to get me crawling within 6 weekes or else I would “have” to go to physical therapy at $150 a pop.  Yeah right.  Needless to say, there will be a conversation at day care tomorrow about the urgent need for more tummy time.  Damn.

Teething induced diarrhea - Day Two. Call the Guinness Book people… Daddy has been changing my diaper about 4 times an hour for six hours straight. Ring of Fire.

“Well, I’m hot blooded, check it and see
I got a fever of a hundred and three”

Unfortunately Foreigner nailed it when describing my current condition.  All of the kids at Cosmo are sick and Mommy had to break loose from work today and come get me.  I hope this passes quickly.

I’m not sure if it’s from daycare or hanging out with some of my friends, but I’m sick again!  This time it’s a wicked cold complete with sore throat and lots of congestion.  Just what I need after coming off my flu of a week ago.  Which, sadly, I gave to Dad… The dude suffered.  And guess who is going to get my cold… My beloved parents.

GOOD TIMES
Yesterday while at daycare, I rolled over for the very first time!! I first rolled from my back to my front and then continued the motion from my front to my back a few moments later. Mommy and Daddy tried to get me to do this once they got me home, but I’m holding onto some of my tricks for later.

BAD TIMES
Last night at about 6:30PM as Daddy was getting me into my car seat to head to PEPS. No sooner than he had me buckled in, I projectile-vomited about 2 ounces of breast milk all over myself and the car seat. Yikes! Daddy and Mommy worked together to get me out of the seat, get the soaked fleece liner off of the car seat, wipe me down, and get me into a new outfit. Then it was deja vu all over again when we basically repeated the same scenario.

At this point we all knew PEPS was off for the night and that we’d just be staying in. But as I continued to barf, Mommy get more and more freaked and suddenly we were rushing to Urgent Care at Swedish Hospital in Ballard. Oh man, here we go. I was checked into an exam room where my temperature was taken and a nurse used a stethoscope to listen to my breathing. All seemed completely normal. A doctor finally made a visit to our room, asked us some redundant questions that the nurse had already documented, and then departed to place a call to my pediatrician.

We were sent home with some basic instructions and told to see my pediatrician in the morning. Once home, I slept like a log for like, six hours. When I finally woke up I was HUNGRY! According to the instructions we were sent home with, my parents were to give me 2 teaspsoons of Pedialyte to see if I could keep it down. To hell with that… I needed food right then!! I gobbled for a good long while and went immediately back to sleep. Since then I’ve barfed a couple of times, but have remained in good spirits and upbeat. The worst is behind me as my system cleans out.

So, as Mommy and Daddy spoke about what may be wrong with me, Mom made a little discovery last night… Breast milk she was giving to daycare for them to feed me was most likely spoiled. She came to that conclusion last night when she was transferring some milk out of bottles to put into freezer bags. She uncapped one that obviously reeked of spoiled milk. This bottle was from a batch that she brought back from her business trip in Dallas. No use crying over spilled milk, but definitely when it comes to spoiled. Needless to say, she dumped all of the milk cache that she had. From now on it’s just the fresh stuff for me!

Mother, father and baby are at home resting, recovering and watching a couple of movies.
